Recently, a coffee bar in Shanghai has sparked heated discussions by offering an astronomical priced coffee at 6,200 yuan per cup. On Monday, one staff member of the shop said that there is only one cup of coffee that is priced at 6,200 yuan at the café, and it has already been reserved and ordered by a customer.
A representative from the Jing'an District Market Supervision Bureau of Shanghai stated that they would investigate the coffee pricing at the shop. The staff member reportedly boasted that the "King of Coffee" is named "Guei Xia Coffee" on the menu, and it performs excellently in all aspects of flavor. The coffee beans used are grown in a superior environment and were the champion coffee beans during this year's Best of Panama (BOP) Cupping Competition -- with a score of 96.5, breaking a new cupping score record.
A café employee also said that the price of this batch of green coffee beans is very high. According to open data, the global production of beans is only 25 kilograms, and the auction price for each kilogram reached $10,005, which is about 73,000 yuan, breaking the record for green bean auction price.
On the same day, the Jing'an District Market Supervision Bureau said that the prices of related products are determined by the market, and there is no government guidance price. They will further investigate the situation.
