France: Translation and publishing award promotes China-France cultural exchanges

The 15th Fu Lei Translation and Publishing Award, an event dedicated to bridging China-France exchanges in the literature field, recently revealed its winners in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province.

The 2023 winners of the event include Chinese translator Li Zheng who won the "Best Social Science" title with the translation of French historian Serge Gruzinski's Four Parts of the World: A History of Globalization. The event was attended by several experts in the Chinese-French cultural industries.

Nicolas Pillerel, Minister Counsellor for Culture, Education, and Scientific Affairs at the French Embassy in China also attended the event. He noted literature's importance in promoting China-France cultural exchanges. 

Dong Qiang, chairman of the Fu Lei Translation and Publication Award committee said that the award is a "fruit of close cooperation" between Chinese translators and the French publishing industry. 

French novelist Muriel Barbery who is known for her poignant piece The Elegance of the Hedgehog shared her creative writing journey with Chinese audiences. 

Launched in 2009, the Fu Lei Translation and Publishing Award was created by the French Embassy in China and is held annually as part of many cultural exchange programs between the two countries. 

The event in 2024 will mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France. Several blockbuster projects, such as the upgraded collaboration between Centre Pompidou in Paris and the West Bund art community in Shanghai, will be implemented to deepen the two countries' cultural communication.
