Chinese mining enterprises have enormous opportunities overseas, and it's the right time for them to venture beyond the country's borders, said Wang Qian, the founder of the Central Merger Group (CM Group), a globalized investment group focused on the mining industry, at the 2023 Global Mining Business Development Forum held on Saturday.

Wang, who is also the vice chairman of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hardware & Electrical Chamber of Commerce, made the remarks as China's overseas mining investments have deeply integrated into the construction of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), becoming an important area for international exchange and cooperation.

During the forum, Wang shed light on CM Group's extensive experiences across South America, Africa, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. Highlighting their on-ground mining projects in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, Wang emphasized the strategic timing for Chinese mining firms to explore overseas markets.

Africa, with its abundant mineral resources, presents a significant opportunity for Chinese enterprises, Wang said, noting that local African governments warmly welcome investments in mining to stimulate infrastructure development, offering ample potential for cooperation between both sides.

In regard to CM Group's challenges in African operations, Wang Qian stressed the need for mining cooperation to contribute to Africa's economic growth while respecting local cultures and balancing corporate interests with those of local communities, which is crucial for mutual development and long-term stability.

The year 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the BRI. Wang expressed hopes for more Chinese mining enterprises to explore African markets, emphasizing the fundamental importance of mutual benefits, cultural integration for a high-quality Belt and Road Initiative collaboration.

As energy and mineral resources stand as crucial elements of the Belt and Road Initiative nowadays, Chinese mining companies actively venture abroad, supporting Asian, African, European, and American nations in achieving a green, high-quality mining development.

"In order to achieve mutually beneficial results and sustainable development in the mining industry in countries taking part in the BRI, Chinese mining companies should enhance international cooperation in the fields of new energy and environmentally friendly mining approaches," observed Wang.
