Cyprus: 63rd independence anniversary celebrated

The 63rd anniversary of the independence of Cyprus was celebrated in Beijing on November 30. Many foreign ambassadors to China were invited to the event, including Greek Ambassador Evgenios Kalpyris, Georgian Ambassador Archil Kalandia and Mongolian Ambassador Tuvshin Badral.

Ambassador of Cyprus to China, Martha A. Mavrommatis expressed with pride the achievements and development since the country gained independence. 

She also emphasized that Cyprus and China have a deep friendship despite the geographical distance. The two countries established diplomatic relations on December 14, 1971. On this solid foundation, the two sides have been expanding their contacts in recent years. The two countries have exchanged frequent high-level visits, and practical cooperation is developing in a comprehensive manner. Economic and trade relations are constantly being promoted. 

Both countries have a long history and are ancient civilizations. Cyprus has joined the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Ambassador Martha A. Mavrommatis noted that "we are looking forward to further strengthening bilateral cooperation with China in other areas, such as tourism, education and the exchange of scientific researchers."
