The Mission of China to the EU on Thursday harshly criticized the EU report that the mission said is full of prejudices and lies and interferes in China's internal affairs, while urging the EU to end its irresponsible remarks and doing more to contribute to the development of China-EU ties.

The EU report seriously infringes on China's sovereignty, interferes in China's internal affairs and violates the basic norms governing international relations and the political commitments of the EU, a spokesperson for the Chinese Mission to the EU said in a statement published on Thursday.

The European Parliament adopted a report concerning EU-China relations on Wednesday.

The report recommended the EU to "de-risk from China to ensure Europe's open strategic autonomy," according to the text published on the European Parliament website.

"On the one hand, the relevant report and resolution of the EU regarding China as the EU's partner; on the other hand, it greatly exaggerates the ideological and value differences between China and the EU, highlighting the two sides as institutional rivals, and even falsely claiming that China has taken the initiative to shift the core of China-EU relations to institutional rivals," the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the report made false remarks on China's political, economic, social and foreign policies, smearing China's human rights situation based on prejudices and lies. In particular, the EU report pointed fingers at issues related to the island of Taiwan, Xinjiang, Xizang, Hong Kong and Macao, which seriously infringes on China's sovereignty and interferes in China's internal affairs, the spokesperson noted.

The report came after the 24th China-EU Summit was held last week in Beijing, where China said that it is willing to actively explore more mutually beneficial cooperation with the EU and to continuously inject new momentum and vitality into bilateral relations.

The current international situation is volatile and intertwined. As two major forces, two major markets and two major civilizations, China and the EU have the responsibility to jointly provide more stability and impetus for development in the world. In particular, China-EU relations should not be held hostage to ideology and geopolitics. Conflict and confrontation will attain nothing but do enormous harm to both and the world, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also pointed out that during the plenary session of the European Parliament, some members said that China is an important partner of the EU and called on the EU to enhance dialogue and properly handle differences.

"These objective and rational voices should not be drowned out by the noises based on ideological bias and disinformation," the spokesperson said.

"We urge the European Parliament to view China's development and progress in a comprehensive and objective manner, abide by international law and basic norms governing international relations, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, stop making irresponsible remarks and do more to contribute to the development of China-EU relations," the spokesperson said.
