10,000 oil lamps to be offered to Shwedagon Pagoda for 10th Anniversary of Belt and Road International Day

To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Belt and Road International Day led by the People's Republic of China, an event to offer 10,000 oil lamps to the Shwedagon Pagoda will be held, according to the General Secretary of the Myanma Arts and Cultural Association U Than Tun Soe. The General Secretary made the remark on the upcoming event which will also include alms food offering, sermons listening and praying at the media briefing at Wyndham Grand Hotel in Yangon on December 12. The event is also dedicated to peace in Myanmar, the General Secretary added. In addition to the 10,000 oil lamps offering to the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, oil lamps offering and prayer for peace events will be held in Mandalay and Bagan. Regarding the event, Mr. Chen Entian, the Head of the “Belt and Road” International Day Office, stressed that Myanmar is an important country along the Belt and Road, and Yangon is an important route of the Maritime Silk Road, and also the event has a positive meaning to strengthen the cooperation of civil organizations in the Belt and Road Initiative, to promote people-to-people relations and to continue the existing "Paukphaw" (fraternal) friendship. It’s learnt that in honor of the International Day of Peace, similar events are held every year in the Belt and Road Initiative countries, and the upcoming event is the 1st time in Myanmar.
