The inaugural "Create Something" Splendid Craft Art Fair (SCAF) took place recently in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province, unveiling a diverse collection of over 180 works from 50 international and domestic artists, as well as five professional galleries and institutions.
The showcased works spanned various materials and techniques, including ceramics, glass, lacquerware, woodworking, metalwork, jewelry, and fiber arts, offering visitors a contemporary visual feast of exquisite and innovative craftsmanship.
"We aim to present an international handicraft fair to Chinese visitors, featuring artworks not only from international art institutions and artists from Europe, the US, Japan, and but also from many domestic artists with overseas study backgrounds. We hope to break the boundaries of art and focus on high-quality cultural exchanges between the East and West," the event's co-founder and executive director Chang Xiaoqiong said.
"This is my first time participating in a Chinese handicraft fair, and it's a great platform for exchange. I've seen many works that embody Eastern charm yet are very contemporary," said Zheng Binglin, founder of the ZHENG Gallery based in London, the UK.
The craft fair will be an annual event, hosting various interdisciplinary exchanges and international exhibitions throughout each year.
