On December 19, the new-energy vehicle centralized charging station demonstration project in Changge City, Xuchang, Henan Province, was officially put into operation. Zhang Yangbo, the account manager of State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company, came to the project site to provide guidance on the operation and utilization of electricity.

The charging station project is a key livelihood project in Henan Province. The total power of the charging equipment used in the construction is 2,880 kilowatts. It is equipped with 3 transformers with a capacity of 4100 kVA, which can meet the needs of more than 40 vehicles to fast charge simultaneously.

In early November, as soon as the project was launched, Zhang Yangbo immediately contacted the project leader Yang Qichao to learn about the project construction. After it started, he guided Yang Qichao to submit the installation application through the State Grid's APP-Online service. After rigorous and meticulous on-site investigation, it was determined that a 1.255-kilometer dedicated line would be connected from the 10 kV Tangning Bay Switching Station to provide power for the charging station.

It requires load transfer to access to the outlet cabinet. The single busbar of the 10 kV Downing Bay switch station operates in sections I and II. The busbar in section II carries a higher load and is difficult to load the 4,100 kVA capacity reported for the charging station. The busbar in section I carries a lower load, but 6 outlet cabinets are all occupied.

Zhang Yangbo also contacted relevant departments to work on-site at the switching station to solve the access problem. After on-site discussion and judgment, everyone finalized the plan: adjust the commercial load carried by the No. 4 outlet cabinet of the section I to the No. 2 outlet cabinet of the section II, to free up the No. 4 outlet cabinet for cable access. After finalizing the construction plan, the staff started at 6 a.m. and ended at 10 a.m. to speed up the progress without affecting the operations of nearby supermarkets and restaurants.

On December 15, the installation of the transformer in the charging station was completed, and Zhang Yangbo and his colleagues guided the customers to connect the transformer to the charging pile. "It's so convenient to install and use power just at one time. I will ask for your help if there is a problem with the power supply at the charging station in the future," Yang Qichao said.

In order to effectively meet the charging needs of new-energy vehicle owners, Xuchang plans to build 2,000 public charging stations across the city this year, actively providing convenient and fast charging services for new-energy vehicles, and assisting the masses in green travel. At present, the city has completed the construction of 1,752 charging stations.

In order to serve the public sector charging infrastructure, Xuchang Power Supply Company has added a total of 100,000 kVA of power distribution capacity and transformed 22.05 kilometers of 10 kV lines to fully ensure the charging needs of the battery swap station project.
