The latest exhibition at the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) features works by the French artist Jean Cardot, looking back his decades-long sculpture career. A total of 70 sculptures and 20 sketches are to be displayed.
The late artist had a close relationship with the museum, as he donated ten pieces of art works to the museum in 2019 and the iconic sculpture Bull under the Sun in 2020, which now stands in the museum's sculpture park.
The 70 pieces of sculpture works demonstrate Jean Cardot's artistic style. He has a solid foundation in realism and modeling ability as the images of great men he created convey people's will, perseverance and vision. Meanwhile, these great men also have a deep influence on his artistic creation.
On the basis of following the laws of nature, the artist creates his own rules through his unique understanding of the world and his unique grasp of the laws of art. "It is the power of innovation. Jean Cardot constructed his own sculptural language between classicism and modernism," said Wu Weishan, director of NAMOC.
The exhibition is set to run until January 15, 2024.
