At their invitation, Liu provided a brief introduction to China's modern history and the development of the CPC, according to a statement on the website of the government agency.
The two sides both recognized that understanding China's modern history and the development history of the CPC will be helpful in understanding China's domestic and foreign policies. Despite China and the US having different political and social systems, they are both a major force globally and their policies have profound impact on each other and the world as a whole.
They carried out an in-depth discussion on how to boost the development of bilateral ties. They stressed that efforts should be made to strengthen communications and exchanges to increase mutual understanding and trust while reducing suspicion and misunderstanding so as to strive for stable development of bilateral ties.
Founder of Bridgewater Associates Ray Dalio, former US treasury secretaries Robert Rubin and Timothy Geithner, and former US undersecretary of state Robert Hormats, and others, joined the meeting.
