China's first anti-drug themed dance drama Breaking the Ice will be staged at Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center from March 1 to 3, the production company Beijing Dance Drama & Opera announced on Wednesday.

Inspired by China's popular anti-drug TV series The Thunder and true cases, the dance drama tells a story of two generations of China's police officers who are not afraid of hardships and who tackle underground drug trafficking networks.

The main storyline follows police officers Li Fei and his son as they take part in anti-drug operations, and the drama fully utilizes the characteristics of dance and integrates modern audio-visual creative designs.

For some classic scenes from the TV series, the dance drama has made stage adjustments, and the storyline has been simplified, while keeping the spiritual core of the original work unchanged, according to the production team.

Yang Zhaoheng, party chief of Beijing Dance Drama & Opera, said that the realistic stage production will contribute to letting the public know about police officers' sacrifices and efforts in safeguarding society.
