The US has long been stirring up the "China space threat" theory, smearing and defaming China, but it is only for the purpose of expanding its own space military power and making excuses for maintaining its military hegemony, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a press conference on Friday.

Wang's remarks came after the US Space Force released an assessment report, claiming that Russia and China are designing and testing counter-space weapons to "deny, disrupt or destroy satellites and space services."

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that it is the US that openly defines outer space as a battlefield, vigorously develops space military capabilities, and provokes great power confrontation. The US is the biggest driver of the militarization of outer space to turn it into a battle field, and the biggest threat to space security.

Wang said the US abuses space technology, maliciously track and dangerously approach other countries' spacecraft, increasing the risk of collisions with space objects, which is a seriously irresponsible behavior. 

China adheres to the peaceful use of outer space, opposes the arms race in outer space, and is committed to promoting negotiations within the international community to reach legal instruments for space arms control, in order to safeguard peace and security in outer space through legal means, said Wang. 

"We once again urge the US to stop spreading false statements, stop its militarization and preparation for war in outer space, and truly assume its due responsibilities," said Wang.
