Former head of CALT expelled from CPPCC National Committee

Wang Xiaojun, former head of the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT), was expelled from the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China Central Television reported on Monday.

The decision was made during the 13th Chairperson's Council meeting of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC, China's national political advisory body, in Beijing on Monday.

Wang was born in April 1969, and obtained a master's degree in missile design from the National University of Defense Technology and a doctoral degree in missile design from CALT, according to media reports. He used to serve as the chief commander of the Long March-7 program and the head of the CALT.

According to its official website, the CALT was established on November 16, 1957, and is affiliated with China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. The CALT is the birthplace of China's aerospace industry, and is also the oldest and largest base for the development, testing, and production of missiles and carrier rockets in China.

In January 2023, Wang became a member of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC.

In February 2023, Wang published an article in the People's Daily as the head of the CALT, and in June 2023 he made a public appearance in Central China's Hunan Province.

According to media reports, Wang has not made a public appearance for some time and there has been a change in the head of the CALT.
