'Texture Lighting' shows power of sculptures
A series of sculptures from Chinese artist Shen Yongji are on display at the Ningbo Museum of Art in East China's Zhejiang Province.
The biggest highlight comes from his work
Texture Lighting, which is also the name of this solo exhibition. The entire piece consists of a more than 10-minute-long song and 43 groups of ship-shaped lights.
The artist says traditional Chinese culture and sculptures inspired him to set up the work in this modern space. Divided into five sections, the work showcases China's spirit of tradition through the motif of a flying Chinese dragon, as 2024 is the Year of the Dragon.
Shen's art career reflects a symbiotic relationship between his understanding of traditional Chinese culture and contemporary material language. Full of traditional Eastern spiritual imagery and modern symbolic meaning, his works have been collected by many art institutions and foundations.
A seminar focusing on his latest creations was also held at the museum with topicscovering his artistic style and development trends as well as how to integrate Chinese and Western art styles.
The exhibition is set to run until February 24.
