The latest live show from Chinese director Zhang Yimou, MGM 2049, is set to premiere in December, the renowned director said in Macao on Monday.

This will be the first resident masterpiece by the director in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as Zhang plans to present China's fine traditional arts on stage, which can be transformed into a base with the mission to inherit culture, cultivate talents and promote the diversified development of Macao.

"Macao, as an international performing arts capital, carries the historical mission of inheritance and innovation. We chose Macao as the creative location for this show because we hope to take advantage of its international tourism platform and a window to present Chinese culture to the world," Zhang said at a press conference.

"MGM 2049 will adhere to the integration of international vision, creativity and  future aesthetics, and use technology, a global technical language, to strengthen the confidence of the Chinese nation and make the world fall in love with China."

The production team also includes music director Wu Tong and visual directors Dominic Faraway and Bernard Prentice.
