A new exhibition inspired by China's classic text and compilation of mythic geography and beasts, Classic of Mountains and Seas, kicked off recently in Guilin, South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The exhibition site presents a 320-meter large-scale landscape installation called Candlelight Dragon by Chinese artist Qiu Qijing, while more than 30 other large-scale sculptures and installations from the artist's Classic of Mountains and Seas series are also on display.

Qiu also worked with musician Song Yuzhe to create a multi-dimensional theme concert. The sculptures of mythical beasts from the Classic of Mountains and Seas are no longer sculptures in the traditional sense, but an attempt to open up the boundaries of art, giving new interpretations to ancient mythical beasts.

Qiu has focused on the ancient book for 12 years. He has traced its origins and found a new approach in the expression of modern art. Qiu emphasizes bringing deep enlightenment to current social development through the oldest philosophical wisdom of the Chinese people.
