The opening ceremony of the 8th national comic strip exhibition kicked off recently in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang Province.
The "New Journey, New Chapter" exhibition showcases the finest works in the field of comic strips from across the country in recent years.
Held at the Ningbobang Museum in the city's Zhenhai district, the exhibition features a combination of solicited and recommended works. The exhibition began accepting submissions from the public nationwide in July 2023, which were then reviewed by the Chinese Artists Association comic strip art committee.
A total of 1,364 submissions were received, out of which 146 were selected. The selected works primarily depict stories of outstanding individuals and collectives from various fields across the country since the new era, all portrayed through realistic character-based paintings.
The opening ceremony attracted artists, scholars, and representatives from various universities and art institutions nationwide. More than 200 guests, including local officials, exhibition artists, and media representatives, attended the event.
Lin Bin, secretary of the Zhenhai district committee of Ningbo, stated that hosting such a high-profile comic strip exhibition in Zhenhai further promotes its cultural brand as the "Capital of Comic Strip Art."
Launched in 2010 by the China Artists Association, this biennial exhibition aims to foster the creation of comic strips.
The current show in Ningbo will run until May 25, after which it will travel to Urumqi in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Huai'an in East China's Jiangsu Province, Guilin in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Qingdao in East China's Shandong Province, and Shanghai.
