At the just concluded Thomas and Uber Cups, China's badminton team won both the men's Thomas Cup and women's Uber Cup on Sunday as they edged out Indonesia in thrilling final matches.

Among the spectators was Indonesian Ambassador to China, Djauhari Oratmangun, who watched the matches held in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan Province.

"I truly hope the Indonesian team makes it to the finals. If Indonesia and China face off, it would be a friendly match," Oratmangun told reporters during an interview with a local media outlet on Saturday.

A familiar face in Chengdu, Oratmangun recalled his previous visits during the World University Games and other international events. Reflecting on the warmth of Chengdu's residents and the city's welcoming ambiance for athletes, he encouraged competitors to explore the city during their free time, particularly highlighting Chengdu's culinary delights and the must-see giant pandas.

Oratmangun, a global ambassador for giant panda culture, also emphasized the importance of visiting the pandas and recalled his own fond experiences in Chengdu. He also recommended exploring the city's old quarter, including the renowned Kuanzhai Alley, which is known for its culinary treasures such as chicken noodles and spicy hot pot.
