3.9-magnitude earthquake hits Datong, N.China’s Shanxi with tremors felt in Beijing

A 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck a county in Datong city, North China’s Shanxi Province during the early hours on Sunday with tremors felt as far as Beijing

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), the earthquake occurred in Yanggao county in Datong at 3:35 am on Sunday morning, with a focal depth of 13 kilometers. 

Some netizens from Yanggao county said they felt jolts from the earthquake, other netizens in Shanxi said that they received warnings of the earthquake sent to their mobile phones. 

Residents as far away as Beijing also felt the tremors in the early hours of Sunday morning. Several netizens in Changping and Fangshan districts of Beijing said that they awake to the shaking of their beds. 

According to the assessment and judgment of the earthquake relief headquarters in Shanxi Province, there exists a low risk of another major earthquake occurring in Yanggao county after this seismic activity. The authority asked the public not to panic, and refrain from spreading rumors, believing rumors or disseminating rumors.
