The Embassy of Azerbaijan in China, on Tuesday, hosted an event to celebrate the Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Beijing.
At the event, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to China Bunyad Huseynov said that the historical relations between Azerbaijan and China dated back to the ancient Silk Road period. Situated at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, Azerbaijan plays the role of a bridge thanks to its favorable geographical position.
"The Azerbaijani-Chinese friendship has never been hindered by time and distance," he said.
He noted that the two countries successfully cooperate within international organizations and demonstrate mutual support in issues related to each other's national interests. Azerbaijan expresses its unwavering support for the one-China policy on all platforms, he said.
As a reliable and responsible member of the international community, Azerbaijan contributes to the fight against the consequences of climate change and the country will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in November..
"Considering China's special contribution to the 'green agenda of the world' and rich experience, we are confident that sustainable, mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries will develop in this direction as well," Huseynov said.
Statistics showed that the volume of bilateral trade relations between Azerbaijan and China increased by 44 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year and this positive moment has continued this year.
The ambassador noted that China's advanced experience and technology in the field of alternative energy are of interest to Azerbaijan.
According to the ambassador, being one of the first countries to join the Belt and Road Initiative, Azerbaijan contributes significantly to the implementation of this initiative with its large-scale transportation-infrastructure projects. The transport arteries passing through Azerbaijan, modern infrastructure, the Baku International Sea Trade Port, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, and other projects form the shortest and most efficient transport routes for goods between China and Europe.
Meanwhile, the number of cases of the establishment of friendly relations between the regions and cities of China and Azerbaijan is increasing each year, and memorandums on friendship relations and cooperation are being signed and practically implemented between the citizens of the two countries.
