China will step up efforts in bolstering the development and application of new-energy transportation vehicles and related facilities in addition to constructing a green and low-carbon transport system by promoting a new round of transportation equipment upgrade, covering autos, ships, rolling stock, logistics and other sectors. 

A combination of 13 Chinese authorities including the Ministry of Transport on Friday released an action plan to promote large-scale equipment renewal targeting the domestic transportation system, according to a circular issued on Friday. The action plan dedicated to the transportation came after a previous action plan aiming to promote large-scale equipment renewals and trade-ins of consumer goods released by China's State Council in March. 

The action plan sets multiple major goals by 2028, including to effectively improve the ship capacity, continuously promote the application of new-energy public transportation vehicles as well as the wide use of intelligent security inspection equipment for express deliveries, further elevate the application of Beidou terminals, while lowering the sector's pollutant emissions. 

Specifically, the action plan vowed to accelerate the replacement for new-energy public transportation vehicles in cities with a focus on utilizing and supporting power battery. It also said to promote the managed roll out and operation of new-energy trucks in more application scenarios while ramping up the construction of related facilities in advance. 

Targeting the shipping sector, the action plan vowed to vigorously support the development of new and clean energy-powered transportation vessels with accelerated research and development in ships backed up by key resources such as liquefied natural gas, methanol, and hydrogen, while improving the supportive infrastructure. 

In addressing the nation's railways and rolling stock, the action plan encouraged the renewal of new-energy locomotives and catch up on globally advanced standards for key indicators, while adapting new technologies to promote the upgrading of old diesel locomotives.

Following the release of the State Council's action plan, governments of nearly 10 Chinese provinces and regions recently issued detailed plans for industrial equipment renewal based on local conditions, further supporting industrial  capacity upgrade amid increasing demand.
