On June 14, the village-level charging station, built by the State Grid Changzhou Electric Vehicle Service Co. Ltd., officially began operations at the Bieqiao Village Health Clinic in Bieqiao Town, Liyang, Changzhou. Wang Chao, a new energy vehicle (NEV) owner from Bieqiao Village, highly praised this effort by the power supply department, saying, “Previously, I had to drive into town to charge my car, but now there’s a charging station right here in the village. This incredible convenience will encourage more people to buy electric cars.”

After the 2024 initiative to adopt NEV in rural areas was launched in Changzhou, Jiangsu, on June 14, the rapid growth of the electric vehicle industry has posed a question local governments and power supply departments must answer: how to secure service and support for green mobility. State Grid Changzhou Electric Vehicle Service Co. Ltd., in collaboration with the local government platform enterprise Jiangsu Pingling Electric Vehicle Service Co. Ltd., is committed to building charging station demonstration areas and enhancing charging infrastructure in rural areas, paving the way for widespread NEV adoption.

“The focus of 2024 is on improving charging infrastructure in towns and villages and continuously strengthening the charging network by planning and building ‘small but functional’ charging stations. In the first half of the year, we started the construction of 24 charging stations in two batches, with 175 new public charging posts and an additional 5,910 kilowatts of charging power,” explained Lei Jie, a representative from the State Grid Changzhou Electric Vehicle Service Co. Ltd. In recent years, the State Grid Changzhou Electric Power Supply Company has been furthering its collaboration with local platform enterprises and increasing the density of public charging facilities from city centers to surrounding areas, from key areas to general areas, and from towns to villages. The two sides have consistently refined station planning in transportation hubs, tourist attractions, public institutions, open parks, cultural and sports venues, and rural areas, with an emphasis on charging facility development in towns, administrative villages, businesses and public institutions. Moreover, collaborative efforts have been made in the standardized repair and maintenance of these facilities, offering great convenience for NEV use in towns.

In 2024, the State Grid Changzhou Electric Vehicle Service Co. Ltd. has commenced construction on 46 charging stations, as part of its year-long plan to build 80 stations, with over 300 charging posts and a 30 percent increase in charging capacity. The company will also leverage charging big data to ensure precise site selection for charging posts, thereby making charging vehicles more convenient for residents.
