The 21st Beijing-Taiwan Young Scientist Forum was held on Thursday in Beijing, bringing together about 200 young scientific and technological talents from universities, research institutes, science and technology associations and enterprises across the Taiwan Straits.

The forum, guided by the Taiwan Work Office of Bejing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Taiwan Affairs Office of Beijing Municipal of People’s Government, and co-hosted by the Beijing Association for Science and Technology (BAST), Beijing Youth Federation, Tianjin Association for Science and Technology (TAST) and Hebei Association for Science and Technology (HAST), focused on fostering cross-Straits scientific collaboration and innovation.

Ding Yong, executive vice president of BAST, said in his speech that the forum has served as a vital academic exchange platform, uniting and supporting scientists from both sides of the Taiwan Straits. This year’s forum will focus on the sharing of experiences and professional exchanges in artificial intelligence construction, helping participants from the island of Taiwan to understand the current development status of leading AI enterprises in Beijing and the city's profound historical and cultural heritage. Ding hoped that young people from both sides of the Straits would fully utilize their expertise and strengths, realize their personal values while integrating into the development of the capital.

In 2017, the forum established the Joint Meeting Mechanism of Beijing-Taiwan Young Scientific and Technological Workers in a bid to facilitate regular exchanges among young scholars, entrepreneurs, and technological talents. This year, the Joint Meeting has expanded further with eight new members during the opening ceremony, including the Beijing Artificial Intelligence Association and the Taiwan Artificial Intelligence Industry Association.

Several young scientists and innovators delivered speeches on cutting-edge topics. Sun Fuchun, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence and Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University, presented on "Embodied Intelligence and Industrial Development," showcasing cutting-edge AI developments. Yang Guodong, Secretary General of the Taiwan Artificial Intelligence Industry Association, discussed the prospects of "Strong Artificial Intelligence (GAI/AGI) and New Productive Forces."

The themed salon for young scientists from Beijing and Taiwan featured discussions on the integration of digital technology with the real economy. Participants analyzed the current state, application, and future trends of digital technology, exploring pathways for deeper collaboration and innovation.

The sideline in the afternoon saw participants discussing advancements in various fields such as agricultural artificial intelligence, geospatial information and smart city construction, smart meteorology, technological innovation, and smart healthcare.

Over the past decade, the Beijing-Taiwan Young Scientist Forum has facilitated exchanges, bringing thousands of experts, entrepreneurs, and young scholars from Taiwan to Beijing, while nearly 50 groups totaling over 600 individuals from Beijing have visited Taiwan for exchanges.
