Chinese Vice Foreign Minister meets with Japanese Foreign Minister, holds China-Japan Strategic Dialogue

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu held a China-Japan Strategic Dialogue with his Japanese counterpart and met with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa in Japan. The two sides had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on major strategic issues regarding China-Japan relations, committing themselves to building China-Japan relations in line with the requirements of the new era.

Ma held a China-Japan Strategic Dialogue with his Japanese counterpart Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Masataka Okano and met with the Japanese foreign minister in Tokyo from Monday to Tuesday, according to a press release by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

The two sides had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on major strategic issues concerning China-Japan relations. 

They unanimously agreed to follow through on the important consensus reached by the two heads of state at the meeting in San Francisco last November, stressing the two countries should meet each other halfway, deepen cooperation and properly handle differences.

They agreed that the two countries should comprehensively advance their strategic and mutually beneficial relationship as well as build a constructive and stable China-Japan relationship that meets the requirements of the new era.

In addition, both sides agreed to step up dialogue and communication between their diplomatic departments with a view to furthering exchanges and cooperation between the two countries at all levels and in all fields.

During his visit to Japan, Ma also met and talked with heads of seven Japan-China friendship groups.

The China-Japan Strategic Dialogue held from Monday to Tuesday is the 16th round of the China-Japan Strategic Dialogue. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular press conference on Friday that China hopes to step up communication and enhance cooperation through the dialogues to promote the sound and steady growth of China-Japan relations.
