Customs officers in Qingmao, South China's Guangdong Province, shared details of a case, in which a traveler tied up and hid 50 old cell phones and 32 old phone cards to enter the country, according to the General Administration of Customs of China on Monday.
A traveler wearing gray and black short-sleeved shirt entered the country through the green channel at the port in Qingmao on July 16, while the customs officers at the scene noticed his strange way of walking and stopped him out of caution.
Upon further inspection, the customs officer found 50 sets of old Apple iPhones tied with plastic film and elastic bandage in the traveler's waist, abdomen, thighs and calves. The customs officer then found old phone cards fixed with transparent tape on the back of some of the seized old cell phones, totaling 32 units.
According to the relevant provisions, transporting, carrying or mailing goods or articles prohibited or restricted by the state from entering or leaving the country, or items subject to taxation in accordance with the law, by means of hiding, disguising, concealing to evade the customs inspection is an art of smuggling. If the circumstances are serious enough to constitute a crime, related people will be held criminally liable in accordance with the law.
