Peru: 203rd independence anniversary celebrated in Beijing, vowing to deepen relations within framework of APEC Peru 2024

To mark the 203rd anniversary of Peru's independence, the Embassy of Peru in China held a ceremony in Beijing on July 26.

Ambassador of Peru to China Marco Balarezo gave a keynote speech at the ceremony. He emphasized the importance of the bilateral relations between Peru and China, as well as the high-level understanding and exchanges within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Hua Chunying, China's vice foreign minister, participated in the ceremony and gave a speech. 

The year 2024 marks the 200th anniversary of the consolidation of Peruvian independence with the Battle of Junín and Ayacucho.

The ambassador expressed the gratitude of the government of Peru for China's hospitality to Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra and her delegation and the high level of understanding reached during the state visit in June.

He continued to vow to further deepen the relationship within the framework of APEC Peru 2024 in Lima.

Peru will chair APEC for the third time in 2024, hosting more than 160 meetings across five cities including Arequipa, Cusco, Trujillo, Pucallpa and Lima.

In her address, Hua expressed appreciation for the results of the state visit. She recalled that both heads of states have met twice in a period of only eight months.

She also recognized the importance that the Peruvian Congress unanimously had passed a resolution to designate February 1 as "Peru-China Friendship Day," fully shows the strong and solid public support for our bilateral ties.

Peru achieved independence in 1821 when the country was liberated from Spain's rule and converted into a republic. 

Jose de San Martin (1778-1850), a famous Argentine general, is credited with leading the revolution against Spanish colonization. 

Peruvians raise their national flag on this day to pay tribute to his accomplishments.
