The bronze sculpture of Zhou Guangzhao

Zhou Guangzhao, a renowned scientist in nuclear and theoretical physics, passed away on Saturday, at the age of 95. A member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhou's groundbreaking work laid the foundation for China's advancements in physics with a global impact, inspiring countless successors in scientific inquiry. A bronze sculpture created by domestic sculptor Wu Weishan has become one of the significant artistic works commemorating Zhou.

The sculpture, titled "The Light of Wisdom - Zhou Guangzhao," measures 63 centimeters in length, 56 centimeters in width and 88 centimeters in height. The sculpture portrays Zhou's calm and profound presence, encapsulating his enduring contributions to science and his deep dedication to his country. This piece stands as a significant artistic tribute to Zhou's legacy.

In December 2020, Wu, who is the director of National Art Museum of China, was commissioned to create a series of sculptures honoring past presidents of the China Association for Science and Technology. Among these figures was Zhou.

Throughout Wu's 40-year creative journey, he has sculpted figures from Chinese history and also outstanding individuals from various ethnic groups worldwide. To date, he has produced more than 600 sculptures, with over 60 of them installed in more than 30 countries and regions.

In 2021, Wu unveiled a series of sculptures showcasing more than 50 prominent scientists from past and present that he had sculpted over the years. Zhou's sculpture is among them.
