A video clip in which a little girl from Hong Kong fluently chanting ancient poems in local dialect on the streets of Xi’an city, in Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, has gone viral online, with netizens lauding the beauty of Cantonese and her skills.


 

The 9-year-old girl from Hong Kong “battled” in Cantonese dialect with a live-streaming anchor, who used Putonghua or mandarin to give a line from renowned poems, and the little girl responded in fluent Cantonese. The poetry contest between the two went wonderfully fluent and smooth, stunning many netizens.

 

Many viewers praised the little girl and admired the attractiveness of Cantonese, expressing those reciting ancient poems in Cantonese carries a distinctive style, in which the pitch sounds very classical.
