China will provide emergency humanitarian medical supplies to Lebanon after a request from the Lebanese government amid the ongoing and escalating situation in the country, a spokesperson from the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) said on Tuesday.

The situation in Lebanon and Israel has escalated recently, and explosions of communication devices and airstrikes occurring in various parts of Lebanon have resulted in a large number of casualties, spokesperson Li Ming noted in a statement released by the CIDCA, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

The Israeli military has been conducting an air campaign in Lebanon since September 23 in response to escalating tensions with Hezbollah, according to Xinhua.

China has enabled the safe evacuation from Lebanon of 215 Chinese nationals, including three Hong Kong residents and one Taiwan compatriot, in two batches by ship and charted plane respectively, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Tuesday.

She added that the current Lebanon-Israel situation is still complex and severe. The Chinese Embassy in Lebanon remains open and continues to provide guidance and assistance to help a few Chinese nationals who are still there keep themselves safe.

Many European leaders on Monday called for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza while repeating their support for the two-state solution. On the one-year anniversary of the current Gaza conflict, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell emphasized the global threat posed by the ongoing violence.

French President Emmanuel Macron told France Inter radio that "the priority is that we return to a political solution, that we stop delivering weapons to fight in Gaza," the BBC reported.

The international community needs to, on the basis of promoting deescalation, hold a more broad-based, authoritative and effective international peace conference and formulate a timetable and roadmap for the implementation of the two-state solution, so as to eventually realize peaceful coexistence between the two states of Palestine and Israel as well as harmony between the Arab and Jewish peoples, Mao said on Tuesday.
