Grammy winner Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra are taking to the stage at China's National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) on Wednesday and Thursday night.
The legendary trumpeter and composer recently opened the Beijing Music Festival (BMF) with the music "Summertime" as well as "Swinging the Blues" and "Sent for You Yesterday" by Eddie Durham and Count Basie.
In addition to recreating classic works in the history of jazz, Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra also are presenting a special work full of innovative spirit: The Shanghai Suite. This suite was composed by Marsalis after performing in Shanghai and reflects his unique perspective and musical expression of the city.
Through his superb trumpet playing and deep understanding of Chinese culture, Marsalis skillfully integrates tradition and modernity, the East and the West, the past and the future, giving the audience an unforgettable musical experience.
