A man surnamed Sheng, after resigning from a company in Xiaoshan, East China's Zhejiang Province, spent a year "meticulously" planning what he believed was a "flawless theft crime."

To avoid police surveillance, he parked miles away from the company, hopped on a garbage-cleaning boat, paddling for three hours to get to the company. Being highly familiar with the layout of the company's office, he sneaked in, retrieved a backup key, and switched off the cameras.

After finally hoisting a safe onto his trusty boat, he paddled back for another three hours, eagerly driving home in the evening to his hometown in Jiangxi Province, neighboring Zhejiang. But before he could even find a welding torch to crack open his shiny new prize, Xiaoshan police caught him. Sheng is under criminal detention and the case is being investigated by police.
