State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company: Promoting shore power facilitation and supporting green shipping

In October of golden autumn, wharfs and shipping terminals in various places usher in the peak transportation season. In the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal (Xuzhou Section), there is a steady stream of ships loaded with cargo every day. The shipping peak puts forward higher requirements for shore power charging security.

The Xuzhou section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal is 181.2 kilometers long and it is the main water transport channel with the highest level, best maintenance and largest transport capacity. In recent years, the Xuzhou Power Supply Company has accelerated the construction of shore power systems in canal channels, improved the atmospheric environment of water transportation channels and the living environment of boat people, and promoted sustainable economic and social development.

In order to cope with the shipping peak, the State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company has dispatched staff to be on duty around the clock to respond to various charging needs, and conduct daily special inspections of the mechanical structure, line connectors, charging guns of charging facilities since October 15. The company also manages to eliminate hidden dangers in a timely manner to improve shore power usage efficiency and provide a steady stream of green power to passing ships. At the same time, a 24-hour telephone duty system is implemented to ensure timely and effective handling of sudden charging problems in order to meet the power demand of ships.

At the shore power station, the crew only needs to park the vessel near the shore, connect the charging line, scan the QR code on the charging pile with their mobile phones, and add the ship information to charge efficiently. Taking the 15-kilowatt fuel generator commonly used in ships as an example, the cost of electricity per kilowatt hour is usually about 1.7 yuan. With shore power however, electricity only costs 0.6 yuan per kilowatt hour, and noise and air pollution are significantly reduced.

"After docking in the Xuzhou section, I often use shore power to charge the equipment on board. Not only is the charging speed fast, but the price is also cheap when power consumption is low, which saves us a lot of worry and effort," Wang Meng, a cargo ship owner from Shandong, shared. A big thumbs up for the quality of the power supply service.
