Following the recent resolutions reached between China and India on issues concerning the border area, frontline troops of both sides are carrying out relevant work and making smooth progress, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Friday.
Lin made the remarks at a routine press briefing in response to a question about Indian media reports on Friday that the two sides have begun disengagement at two friction points.
Five tents on each side in the Demchok area and half of the temporary structures in Depsang have been dismantled. Indian soldiers are moving back to the west side of the Charding Nala, while Chinese soldiers retreat to the east side, sources said, India Today reported.
There are about 10 to 12 temporary structures and around 12 tents on both sides, all of which are set to be removed. Once all tents and temporary structures have been fully removed, a joint verification process will begin, both on the ground and through aerial surveys, the India Today report said.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry briefed on Tuesday that "Over a recent period of time, China and India have reached resolutions on issues concerning the border area following close communication through diplomatic and military channels. China commends the progress made and will continue working with India for the sound implementation of these resolutions."
The resolutions reached by the two sides marked a breakthrough in resolving the border issues that started in 2020.
