As Europe woke to the news that Trump was on track for a historic second term in the White House early Wednesday, congratulations rolled in, according to US media Politico.

"Congratulations President Donald Trump. Ready to work together as we have done for four years," Macron said. "With your convictions and with mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity."

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also congratulated Trump. "I look forward to working with him again to advance peace through strength through NATO."

"President-elect Trump demonstrated strong US leadership throughout his first term in office - a term that turned the tide on European defence spending, improved transatlantic burden sharing, and strengthened Alliance capabilities. When President-elect Trump takes office again on January 20, he will be welcomed by a stronger, larger, and more united Alliance," said Stoltenberg, according to a statement posted on NATO's website.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Trump on his comeback. Describing Trump as "my friend", Modi said in a post on X, "Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory."
