The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Thursday urged some US politicians to immediately stop the political farce of interfering in Hong Kong's rule of law and China's internal affairs.

A spokesperson from the Commissioner's Office expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition in a statement in response to a recent letter from certain members of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China to the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, that maliciously slandered the rule of law and human rights in Hong Kong and openly supported anti-China figures like Jimmy Lai.

The spokesperson pointed out that Hong Kong's rule of law is internationally recognized, ranking higher than the US in the recently released "2024 Rule of Law Index" by the World Justice Project. Figures like Jimmy Lai have crossed legal boundaries, challenging the constitutional order of the SAR and the bottom line of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle, seriously endangering national sovereignty, security, and development interests.

The SAR's law enforcement and judicial authorities are fulfilling their duties in accordance with the law, upholding legal authority and defending national security, which is entirely reasonable and lawful, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson emphasized that the core principle of the rule of law is that laws must be followed, violations must be punished, and law enforcement must be strict.

A small number of anti-China politicians in the US turn a blind eye to their own country's poor record on human rights and the rule of law while openly interfering in the Hong Kong SAR's judiciary, violating the principles of non-interference in internal affairs under international law and basic norms of international relations, the spokesperson noted. The spokesperson described it as blatant contempt and a gross violation of international law and the spirit of the rule of law.

These anti-China politicians in the US should recognize the facts, genuinely respect China's sovereignty and Hong Kong SAR 's rule of law, maintain an objective and fair stance, cease their political manipulation with ulterior motives, stop interfering in Hong Kong's judiciary in any form, and refrain from meddling in Hong Kong affairs and interfering in China's internal matters, the spokesperson from the Commissioner's Office said in the statement.
