At the ongoing Airshow China 2024, Global Times reporters were invited to board the Russian Su-57 stealth fighter jet and experienced the view of pilot Sergey Bogdan, who delivered astonishing flight performances with the aircraft at the airshow.
Russia's Rosoboronexport sent two Su-57 jets to the Airshow China, currently being held in Zhuhai, South China's Guangdong Province, from November 12 to 17. One of them is the Su-57 piloted by Bogdan, and the other is a Su-57E ("E" means export) on ground display, available for visitors and potential clients to experience, in a move to promote the aircraft on the international arms market.
Standing right beside the cockpit of the Su-57E, the Global Times reporters were able to closely observe the unique flat aerodynamic design. The flat shape and its blended wing body gives the Su-57E a science fiction vibe, as if it was a saucer-shaped aircraft.
Staff members of Rosoboronexport invited the Global Times reporters to board the Su-57E and experience the aircraft. During the experience, the Russian personnel allowed photography on most of the aircraft, with only exceptions of its inner cockpit, the air intakes, the details of the landing gears, and the inner structures near the engines.
Standing next to the Su-57E on static display at the airshow, "Mike," a staff member of Rosoboronexport, told the Global Times on Wednesday that the fighter jet "comprises the best technical performances and fully complies with the fifth generation criteria which include the supersonic cruise flight mode, low radar and infrared signature. It has high noise immunity when operating in a contested air environment and has one of the most advanced and powerful element complexes specifically designed and integrated on the fighter jet."
Alexander Mikheev, director general of Rosoboronexport, told the Global Times that the Su-57E's key competitive advantage is the combat experience against advanced Western air defense systems such as the PATRIOT, NASAMS and IRIS-T SLM.
"We are holding technical consultations with a number of Russia's strategic partners. We are discussing both deliveries of final products from Russia and cooperation within joint development and production projects," Mikheev said.
