Knife attack on E.China’s Jiangsu campus leads to 8 deaths; suspect caught at scene: local police

A knife attack occurred at a campus in Yixing, East China's Jiangsu Province, on Saturday evening, resulting in 8 deaths and 17 injuries, local public security authorities announced on Saturday.

At around 6:30 pm on Saturday, a man attacked people with a knife at the Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology in Yixing, resulting in 8 fatalities and 17 injuries. The suspect was apprehended at the scene, according to Yixing Public Security Bureau. 

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect, surnamed Xu, male, 21, is a 2024 graduate of the institute. He carried out the attack as an act of retaliation. Motivated by his failure to pass exams and obtain his diploma, as well as dissatisfaction with internship compensation, he returned to the school to vent his anger. Xu has confessed to his crimes.

Currently, the rescue of the injured, the handling of the aftermath, and the investigation of the case are being carried out with full force.
