Tiger bites villager in NE China's Heilongjiang; victim's condition stable as authorities are tracking the animal

A villager in Boli county in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, was bitten on the left hand by a tiger and is currently being treated at a medical facility. The injured has stable vital signs. Relevant departments have arrived at the scene and are tracking the tiger’s movements, according to a statement published by the local forestry and grassland bureau on Monday.  

The local public security department received a report at 6:38 am on Monday, stating that around 6 am, a tiger’s movements were discovered in Changtai village, Boli county, state broadcaster CCTV reported, citing information from the county’s forestry and grassland bureau.  

The Public Security Bureau in Qitaihe city, which administers Boli county, has launched a police aviation unit, with eight police officers using drones to search for the tiger, according to the CNR News. 

A video clip published by the CCTV shows the tiger attempted to charge at the large iron gate of a villager’s house. The elderly villager met the tiger and narrowly escaped the attack by running away.

Local authorities have urged residents to take safety precautions and strengthen wildlife protection efforts.

They also advised residents in nearby townships to remain vigilant and, if they spot large wild animals, seek safety immediately and report it as soon as it is safe to do so.
