On November 21, the State Grid Bortala Power Supply Company successfully installed lightning arresters on the 110 kV Huanggu Transmission Line, significantly improving its ability to withstand lightning strikes and ensuring the safe and stable operation of the transmission system.

The 110 kV Huanggu Qianxian line is a critical power supply route for the Jingyi-Horgos Railway, providing electricity to traction substations. This line traverses the rugged and steep terrain of the mountainous area, characterized by complex landforms and unpredictable weather conditions. During the thunderstorm season, frequent lightning strikes pose a serious threat to the safe operation of the transmission line.

To mitigate these risks, the company made the proactive decision to install lightning arresters in areas particularly prone to lightning strikes. The installation took place over two days, from November 20 to 21, focusing on iron towers No. 209 to 214, which are known for their high incidence of lightning activity. With the new lightning arresters in place, the potential impact of lightning on the transmission line's safety will be significantly reduced.

To ensure the installation proceeded smoothly, the company developed a comprehensive operational plan and mobilized a team of experienced transmission professionals. The team traveled for two hours to reach the base of mountain, where they faced the challenges posed by the rugged terrain. After a strenuous 40-minute climb, they successfully reached the iron towers. Prioritizing safety, the team implemented necessary precautions as they ascended the towers to install 18 sets of lightning arresters.

"The lightning arresters installed during this operation exhibit exceptional lightning protection capabilities. In the event of a thunderstorm, they can swiftly channel lightning currents into the ground, safeguarding the transmission line from potential strikes. This enhancement not only bolsters the line's resistance to lightning but also minimizes hazards associated with severe weather, thereby providing a more reliable foundation for the power supply operations of the Jingyi-Horgos Railway," stated Liang Wei, the maintenance supervisor at the Transmission Operation and Maintenance Center of State Grid Bortala Power Supply Company.
