In response to the cease-fire agreement between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that China follows closely the current situation between Lebanon and Israel, and has consistently called on all parties to earnestly adhere to UNSC Resolution 1701. China supports all efforts conducive to easing tensions and achieving peace, and welcomes the relevant parties reaching an agreement on a cease-fire.

Mao added that Chinese side believes the failure to reach a cease-fire in Gaza is the root cause of the current turmoil in the Middle East. She called on all parties to work together to achieve a comprehensive and lasting cease-fire in Gaza at an earlier date.

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect on Wednesday after both sides accepted an agreement brokered by the US and France, according to Reuters.
