China has reiterated its position multiple times this year regarding the G7's erroneous remarks about the country, and given the G7's proposal to establish constructive and stable relations with China and cooperate on global challenges, the group should adhere to the principles of mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday, emphasizing that this proposal should be translated into concrete actions, rather than continuing to attack and smear China.
Mao made the remarks in response to the G7 foreign ministers' meeting statement, which proposed seeking constructive and stable relations with China, cooperating with China to address global challenges, while demanding that China cease supporting Russia's defense industry, hyping up the so-called Chinese overcapacity issue, and making wrongful comments on issues related to the East China Sea, South China Sea, and China's Taiwan, Xinjiang, Xizang, and Hong Kong.
Mao said China has always maintained an objective and fair stance on the Ukraine crisis, actively promoting peace talks, never providing weapons to the conflicting parties, strictly controlling the export of dual-use items and even civilian drones, and opposing the use of civilian drones for military purposes. Meanwhile, normal economic and trade exchanges between China and Russia should not be interfered with or coerced by any third party.
Mao also said the so-called Chinese overcapacity has been proven to be a false proposition by a large amount of detailed data and facts. We hope that relevant countries will maintain an open mindset and adhere to fair competition, Mao said.
The spokesperson noted that China's position on the East China Sea, South China Sea, and China's Taiwan, Xinjiang, Xizang, and Hong Kong issues are consistent and clear. "We firmly oppose the G7's actions that undermine China's sovereignty and interfere in China's internal affairs, and urge G7 countries to abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and the basic norms governing international relations, and mind their own business."
Today, changes unseen in a century are unfolding at an accelerated pace, and international peace and development face unprecedented challenges. As a responsible great power, China has always adhered to fairness, justice, openness, and inclusiveness, and has benefited the world with its own development, Mao noted.
We hope that G7 countries will stop indulging in geopolitical games, abandon narrow zero-sum thinking, and make practical contributions to international solidarity and cooperation, Mao said.
