Caroline Wilson, the British Ambassador to China, visited Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu Province on November 20, according to a report from the British Consulate-General in Shanghai.

During her meeting with Fang Wei, vice governor of Jiangsu Province, the two sides discussed collaboration between the UK and Jiangsu Province in areas such as business, scientific research, education, clean energy, and culture. Jiangsu has already attracted some British companies to invest in the province, and the UK has established innovation and cultural exchange initiatives with several cities in Jiangsu. Both sides look forward to creating more opportunities for cooperation.

During her visit, Ambassador Wilson also toured Southeast University, the Nanjing Museum, and the Nanjing City Wall. These visits underscored the close ties between the UK and China in Nanjing, spanning from educational partnership to cultural exchanges.
Southeast University is a member of the UK-Jiangsu 20+20 World Class University Consortium and the UK-China University Consortium on Engineering Education and Research. Among its collaborations, the University of Birmingham - also a member of the consortium - recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Southeast University on brain health research and an agreement to jointly offer a 2+2 dual-degree program in energy and environmental sciences.

The ambassador also visited the Southeast University-University of Birmingham Joint Research Center in Biomedical Engineering, which was established in 2018 to develop new biomedical technologies that could help fight diseases and aid regeneration of the human body.

In the Nanjing Museum, Ambassador Wilson engaged in discussions with museum representatives about future collaborations between the UK and China at the institution. In 2023, the Nanjing Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London co-hosted the exhibition "Beyond William Morris - British Arts and Crafts 1890-1920." The exhibition, which was also held in Hebei Museum and Chengdu Museum, runs until 2025.

In 2022, Nanjing and Birmingham became sister cities, fostering friendly relations that continue to promote win-win cooperation.
