Recently, the "struggle without worry" insurance policy desired for employers implementing the so-called "996" work schedule has sparked heated discussions online.
Images circulating on the internet show a billboard advertising this insurance policy, with premiums starting at 18 yuan ($2.5) per year and a maximum compensation amount of up to 600,000 yuan. The insurance program is allegedly underwritten by Ping An Property Insurance. The "996" work schedule refers to a schedule where employees work from 9 am to 9 pm, with a one-hour break for lunch and another for dinner, totaling over 10 hours of work, and a six-day workweek.
In a response, Ping An noted that the company currently does not offer this insurance product. "Our company has long adhered to the philosophy of 'finance for the people,' launching a variety of insurance products to meet the diverse needs of our customers," a Ping An statement reads. Industry observers noted that insurance products offered by Chinese insurers now cover work accidents, bought by individuals at high risk of sudden death and other work-related hazards.
