Chinese FM responds to Ishiba's remarks on bilateral ties, calling on Japan to establish an objective and correct understanding of China

The long-term, healthy, and stable development of China-Japan relations aligns with the fundamental interests of both peoples, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday in response to report that Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba stated that during the APEC meeting, he had in-depth discussions with the Chinese leader and both sides agreed to cooperate in areas where they can despite there are various differences and concerns.

According to media report, Ishiba further mentioned that Japan will work toward advancing a comprehensive strategic and mutually beneficial relationship with China and building a constructive and stable Japan-China relationship by engaging in communication at all levels, including with Chinese leader.

In response, Lin said on Monday that China hopes Japan will work with China, face history squarely, and look to the future. Lin called for Japan to establish an objective and correct understanding of China, and to implement the principles and directions outlined in the four political documents between China and Japan, such as treating each other as partners and avoiding mutual threats, into concrete policies and actions. 

He also urged both sides to deepen practical cooperation in various fields, constructively manage differences, and fully implement the important consensus reached by leader of the two countries, so as to promote steady and long-term progress in China-Japan relations.
