Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Tuesday confirmed that seawater samples Chinese experts independently collected near Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant have arrived in China.
Based on the consensus reached between China and Japan, Japan agrees to implement long-term international monitoring of the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water from Fukushima nuclear plant under the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and to ensure that stakeholders, including China, can conduct independent sampling and monitoring, ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said.
In mid-October, under the organization of IAEA, experts from multiple countries, including China, independently collected seawater samples near the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and sealed them on-site, Lin said.
Recently, the relevant samples have arrived in China, where domestic professional research institutions are conducting rigorous independent testing and analysis, and will promptly announce their progress, Lin said.
