The Chinese business community firmly opposes the US abuse of export control measures and its “long-arm” jurisdiction over Chinese companies, a spokesperson from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) said on Wednesday in response to the US’ latest control measures on semiconductor export to China.

The US economic coercion and blockade against relevant Chinese industries and companies seriously violate the principles of market economy and fair competition. The US disregards international trade rules and unilaterally undermines the stability and cooperation of global industrial and supply chains, which will have a severe impact on the global semiconductor industry, including American companies, the spokesperson said.

The global semiconductor industry has always maintained close communication and cooperation. The abuse of unilateral sanctions will severely impact the foundation for cooperation and development in the global semiconductor industry, the spokesperson said.

Maintaining the resilience and stability of global industrial and supply chains, including the semiconductor industry, is a crucial guarantee for promoting the sustainable development of world economy and aligns with the common interests of the international community and companies from various countries, the spokesperson noted.

The Chinese business community urges the US to stop unilateral restrictions, adhere to international trade rules, and take concrete actions to promote the healthy development of the global semiconductor industry, maintain the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains, and to transform them into a "world win-win chain,” the CCPIT spokesperson said.

Four Chinese industry associations, including China Semiconductor Industry Association, China Association of Automotive Manufacturers, China Association of Communications Enterprises and Internet Society of China voiced firm opposition on Tuesday to the US' most recent chip export control targeting Chinese enterprises. They called on relevant sectors to exercise caution when purchasing chips from the US.

In response to a question regarding US’ new export controls on semiconductors targeting China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Tuesday said China firmly opposes the US’s overstretching the concept of national security, abusing export controls, and wantonly imposing illegal unilateral sanctions and “long-arm jurisdiction” over Chinese companies.

Such practices gravely disrupt the international economic and trade order, destabilize global industrial and supply chains and harm the interests of all countries. China calls on the US to respect the laws of market economy and the principle of fair competition. We will do what is necessary to firmly safeguard our security and development interests, Lin said.
