The US claim that China's information and communication products have posed a security risk is completely unfounded, He Yadong, a spokesperson of China's Ministry of Commerce, said on Thursday.
He made the remarks in response to a media question regarding an annual US defense bill up for a vote in the US House of Representatives, which will allocate more than $3 billion for US telecom companies to remove equipment made by Chinese telecoms firms Huawei and ZTE from American wireless networks to address "security risks."
China firmly opposes the US overextending the definition of national security, violating the principles of market economy and fair competition, and interfering in the normal economic and trade cooperation between Chinese and American companies, He said.
The spokesperson said that China hopes that the US will respect the facts and cease politicizing and weaponizing trade issues. China will take all necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
