China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) on Monday urged the US to immediately correct its wrongdoings and withdraw the tariff hikes on China, and vowed to take necessary measures to safeguard its rights and interests, after the USTR on December 11 announced to raise import tariffs on certain tungsten products, polysilicon and other products from China.

China has consistently opposed unilateral tariff measures and has repeatedly lodged solemn representations with the US, a spokesperson of the MOFCOM said on Monday, adding that the WTO previously ruled the US Section 301 tariffs on China violate WTO rules.

The MOFCOM spokesperson stated that the new US tariff measures will neither resolve the US trade deficit nor enhance its industrial competitiveness, but will also push up inflation in the US, harm US consumer interests, and seriously undermine the international economic and trade order and the security and stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain.
