Regarding the upcoming vote in the US on legislation to restrict American investments in China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Wednesday that China-US economic and trade cooperation is mutually beneficial and serves the interests of both peoples.
The broadening of the national security concept and the imposition of artificial barriers to normal economic and trade exchanges for political purposes go against the principles of market economy, fair competition, and free trade that the US has long advocated. This practice disrupts the stability of global supply chains and does not serve the interests of either side, Lin stated.
Reuters reported Tuesday that the US Congress will vote in the coming days on legislation restricting US investments in China, as part of a bill to fund government operations through mid-March.
Chinese side urged relevant US politicians to stop politicizing and weaponizing economic and trade issues, and to create the necessary conditions for cooperation between the two countries.
