Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian
Cooperation between China and the UK is based on mutual interests and aligns with the expectations of the business community, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Thursday in response to a Bloomberg reporter's query about reports that the UK is considering plans to enhance trade ties with China.
Lin said China and the UK are both major players in the global economy and finance, share a partnership rooted in mutual interests. This collaboration is fundamentally characterized by mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.
"We hope that the UK and China will move in the same direction to deepen cooperation, promote economic relations and achieve more results, which will benefit people of both nations and the world," Lin said.
The UK Treasury has drawn up proposals for closer economic ties with China focused on financial services and clean energy, the Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.
The draft proposals include the aim to boost trade and investment in both directions and a particular focus on banks in the City of London, according to a document seen by Bloomberg and people familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity.
